It has been over two months since our new website has gone live.
Thank you so much for clicking onto the website and for all your
positive reviews. We are glad that you like it and hope that you will
continue to stay online with us.
A lot has happened over the past two months. Our garden is looking so
beautiful showing its sequence of brilliant flowers and buddings as one
season unfolds to another. The bird feeder is constantly busy with
eager and hungry feathered friends. We have seen more cardinals this
year than any other year. The Blue Jays visit and cause a stir. Wrens
and Finches still dominate but are equally generous of dropping seeds to
welcoming squirrels below. At one point we had a female possum around
the courtyard carrying her young ones on her back and winding her way
under the iron gate to the back of the brick wall. The neighborhood
cats refresh themselves by sipping water from our fountain. Indeed
there is a lot happening in the natural world.
Jubilee House had its first Award Ceremony for the ‘Straight Ahead’
Adult Enrichment Program on May 15th. 12 graduates earned Certificates
for Computer Science, Life Skills, and English. Our keynote speaker was
Mr. John Ferrantino of CL&P, one of our major funders of the program.
The ceremony was followed by a reception for family and friends. We are
happy to say that several of the graduates are going on to further
study.

The Esperanza Academic Center completed its academic year on May
17th. During the 2007/2008 academic year, EAC completed 8 week modules
including Writing I, Writing II and Math I. 59 students received
Certificates of Completion.
The ESOL Program will come to a close for the year with our certificate
presentations on June 12. Nearly 50 students are currently active in
this program and most plan to return in the fall and continue to improve
their fluency in English. A big ‘thank you’ goes out to our wonderful
group of over 30 volunteer tutors who make it possible for us to offer
this much needed service.
As Jubilee House winds down a bit for the summer I look out at the view
from my window. Signs of new life are everywhere. People are biking,
walking and taking a more relaxing approach to life as summer is not too
far away. Over the Memorial Day holiday, I smelled the backyard grills
and barbecues which reminded me of a much simpler time when I grew up in
Bethel. With the escalating gas prices people might start to enjoy their
own backyards, their neighborhoods and count them as blessings. It
really doesn’t get any better than that!
I want to thank you for making Jubilee House happen! Thank you for your
generosity and for all you do for the cause!Happy Spring! |

Jubilee House is already used on a regular basis by several groups as a meeting
place. For the future we would like to expand this aspect of the mission of Jubilee House. Any group with a mission compatible with ours is welcome to
schedule retreats, meetings, conferences, workshops, celebrations, etc. Groups of forty to fifty can be comfortably accommodated.
