Volunteer at Jubilee House

Are you looking for an opportunity to use some of your time in giving back to the Hartford community and enriching the lives of the people who live here? Would you like to be part of a lively group of friends and neighbVolunteersors helping build a vibrant community?  If your answer is yes, please consider joining Jubilee House as a volunteer.  There are several opportunities available—including, perhaps, just what you’ve been looking for!

Since the Hartford residents who want to learn English outnumber the services available, our classes in English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) are always in need of tutors to work one-to-one with individual students, or with small groups of two or three.  No teaching experience is needed, and you do not need to be able to speak any language other than English. Classes are offered four days aVolunteers week, Monday through Thursday, from 9:30 to 11:30 during the school year.  You may choose one, two, three or four days a week to offer your services, according to your availability.
If sharing your knowledge of English is something you are interested in, please
call Sister Anne at (860)727-0610.

The Refugee Assistance Center at Jubilee House also welcomes volunteers.  Jody Putnam, who coordinates the Center, works directly with persons interested in helping new arrivals in the city by responding to a variety of needs.  Flexibility of schedule is required, since situations that need immediate attention can arise unexpectedly.  Please call Jody at (860) 643-1338 if you would like to help.

The beautiful courtyard around which Jubilee House is built is always in need of volunteers to help Volunteersmaintain it.  Anyone who enjoys gardening is invited to work with us from spring through fall according to whatever schedule is possible for him or her.  Please call us at (860)247-3030 if you are interested.

If you choose to join the numerous active volunteers who provide from seven thousand to eight thousand hours of service annually, you will be greeted with a warm welcome by the Jubilee House community!  Without the dedication of our volunteers, Jubilee House simply could not exist.
